Welcome to Acuherb Academy

We run seminars and short courses in acupuncture and herbal medicine for healthcare professionals.

Michael provides fascinating insight into not only the TCM approach but western herbs, the history and often the impact of our modern world on health.  It is delivered with passion, insight and great knowledge, with some humorous anecdotes too!! Not only has it given me greater confidence in the clinic, I have a comprehensive booklet for future reference! I'm looking forward to the next one!"

Hectic 21st century lifestyles place unparalleled demands on us all causing intolerable stress in many. The concept of stress has evolved significantly since first conceived by Hans Selye in 1936. The notion of homeostasis at the heart of Selye’s adaptive scheme has been further refined by the concept of allostatic overload which manifests in wear and tear on the mind/body as a result of being ‘stressed out’.  It is for this reason that allostatic overload is now held responsible for many of the common diseases of modern life.

This seminar discusses the care of those with cancer, considering the pros and cons of the integration of Chinese medicine with conventional cancer treatment as well as the adoption of rational dietary measures. In particular, it will look at the research around the use of plants that may improve immune function and display anticancer potential. It will also consider current controversies regarding the risks and benefit of plants containing phytoestrogens and antioxidants. The seminar will also review recent research that aids our understanding of the anti-inflammatory activity of some well known herbs, and how this information can be applied to specific areas of clinical practice.
